Moderation Terms

When it comes to moderation, ideally we won’t moderate comments, as long the material does not breach our site Code of Conduct.

We normally moderate comments reactively, checking whether a comment has breached our Code of Conduct after an individual has let us know of their concerns via the ‘Report this Comment’ link, which can be found next to every comment.

If the Administrators of Typeboard believe that a comment has breached our Code of Conduct, we will quarantine the comment (effectively removing it from public view) and let the original author of the comment (and author of the article) know via email. We will also give comment author the opportunity to modify or rephrase and resubmit their comment before we permanently delete it.

If we deem a comment that has been reported is legitimate: (i.e. does not breach our Code of Conduct), we will leave the comment intact, and email the complainant to let them know why we have come to this conclusion.

We will do our best to respond to reports of potential breaches of our Code of Conduct within forty-eight hours.

All deleted or moderated comments moderated by the Administrators of Typeboard will be marked with the text “[comment removed]” or “[comment moderated]”.  It is important to note that the author of the original article also has the ability to remove or moderate comments that are not on topic or that breaches our Code of Conduct. We actively encourage them to adopt an identical marking policy for moderated comments.

All comments are published live, however we have a spam filter which sometimes might hold your comments from going live until it is looked at by one of our Typeboard editors, your comment will then be published if it follows our Code of Conduct.

Typeboard also requests that authors  do their best to be independent, objective, fair and as positive as possible when it comes to moderating comments.  However if  there is any uncertainty with regard to the suitability of any particular comment then we encourage you to contact the Typeboard Administration team via the ‘Report this Comment’ link and we will review the comment as soon as possible.

Please note that ‘Off-topic’ comments are permitted as they can sometimes provide additional or information not directly related to the original article subject. Typeboard reserves the right to remove ‘Off-topic’ comments if they are deemed abusive to authors, or other contributors. We will not hesitate in removing “Off topic” comments if they are more likely to detract from the quality of the article or breach the site Code of Conduct.
