Intense thunder storm over Canberra

Posted on January 2, 2011 by by smont

An  intense thunder storm lasting about 90 mins hit Canberra just after 12am this morning (2 Jan 2011). Although the Bureau of Meteorology figures only recorded 11.4mm of rain at Tuggeranong and 5.2mm at Canberra Airport, rainfall at Weston Creek was much heavier and continued well beyond 1.30am (the BOM figures only showed 1mm of rain past 1am, whereas the heaviest rain at Weston Creek was between 1am and 2am). Lightning strikes and intense thunder claps continued across Canberra for about 90mins.
