Sewage Spill won’t stop Canberrans from fishing

ABCÂ is reporting that the Australian Olympic rowing program is in disarray after the Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin was closed due to the sewage spill coming from the Queanbeyan Sewage Treatment Plant after last week’s rain.
The National Capital Authority published a media release (3rd of December ) where they announced the closure of the Lake Burley Griffin for all sporting and recreational use. However as I drove pass the lake on sunday (5th of December), I saw over 7 people fishing along the lake.  What happens if they come back to fish this weekend or during the week? Do they get fined? I’ve also seen several people canoeing. Surely this is how gastro viruses break out!Â
This is a photo we took as we drove pass Kings Bridge, the photo is not great but you can just see people fishing.Â
