ACT Gov declares December 25th a Public Holiday in Canberra

Posted on November 30, 2010 by by valerirojas

This is definitely good news for Canberrans who were going to work on Christmas day ’25th December’ this year.

The ACT Government has agreed to declare a public holiday this year on December 25, ACT Minister for Industrial Relations, Katy Gallagher said today.

“This year we see Christmas Day falling on a Saturday, so Monday 27 December was made a public holiday in lieu of the 25th, The change announced today has been made to ensure people who work on weekends are not disadvantaged and the 27th will remain a public holiday,” Ms Gallagher said.

“We recognise that Christmas Day is a national holiday that is important to many families, and if someone is not able to spend the day with their loved ones because of work, they should be fairly compensated.”

The Government also considered the fact that NSW, NT, TAS and WA have already moved to declare Christmas Day a public holiday.
