Solving Australia’s energy crisis for $8 a week
Posted on August 5, 2010 by by emd
$8 is the estimated cost per week per household that a new report from the University of Melbourne says would be required to transform the entire Australian electricity production system to renewable energy by 2020. That’s two to three cups of coffee per household per week or a mere 3 percent of Australia’s GDP.
I just read this in an email from Canberra Love 40%, and I reckon this is pretty cool. It’s not just $8 a week on Green Choice so that part of your personal energy consumption is sourced from renewable energy suppliers. It’s $8 a week so that everyone’s energy is sourced from 100% renewable energy suppliers.
Apart from the environment benefits, this could have a massive impact on the Australian economy by providing more green-collar employment opportunities, and setting Australia’s reputation as a world leader in renewable energy production.
But that’s just my opinion. What do you think?

I welcome any projects or concepts that can help the environment in general and this one sounds like a good concept.

love that the people of Canberra have taken a strong initiative for the future. Would have to research more into the project before commenting on the financials.
