Victoria Police have requested public assistance after reports of a woman seen in the Yarra River last night. At approximately 6.15pm five people heard a woman yelling for help from the middle of the river just west of the Hoddle Street bridge.
“The witnesses yelled out to her to swim to the side but she ignored their request and started floating on her back towards the bridge where they lost sight of her.”
“Police attended and patrolled on foot, Water Police searched the river and the Air wing conducted a search by air but were unable to locate the woman. The Water Police and Search and Rescue will return Sunday morning to continue the search.”
A pair of woman’s slip on shoes were located at the side of the river which may belong to the woman.
She is described as Caucasian with brown hair.
Police are unsure whether she was able to get out of the river and are appealing for anyone with information or who knows the woman to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au
