Australian WikiLeaks founder wanted in Sweden for rape

I thought someone would try to bring WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange down, but to accuse him of raping someone? I didn’t see that coming.
STOCKHOLM, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — The Swedish Prosecution Authority has issued a warrant for the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on suspicion of rape.
The authority said Saturday the warrant, issued on Friday evening, was based on “one report of rape and one report of molestation”.
The 39-year-old Australian was in Sweden last week to discuss his work and defend his intent to publish further documents on the war in Afghanistan.
He spent time with one of the alleged women victims at an apartment in Stockholm on Saturday night, and met the other women in the nearby town of Enkoping, according to local newspapers.
Assange denied the accusations in an email to Stockholm daily Dagens Nyheter.
“Why these accusations are coming at this point in time is an interesting question. I haven’t been contacted by the police. The allegations are false,” he was quoted as saying.
UPDATE:
Police were dropping the charge of rape and withdrawing the warrant for his arrest.
But they said they were still deciding whether to question him about the sex assault allegation.

more interesting information to read thru… Personally I found it interesting to watch the tweets flow thru on Saturday… something on the election, then julian, election, Julian. He’s somewhat of a modern day Ned Kelly – to be on the same page as a hung government was somewhat eerie.
What will be REALLY interesting is the fight back to bring the conversation back above the belt.

that was actually a pretty good view of the current wikileak situation. Community/citizen Media has been around for a few years but thanks to wikileaks it could become a revolution or at least as important as traditional media.
