Roadworks slowing Canberra down and causing more accidents

One question i would like to know is if any one knows the answer to. WHY is there so muh road works going on in Canberra? Is it that hard to finish one before starting another? It takes longer to get around now days. Is the government doing it so we THINK that tax payers money is being used? I wish they just stopped it for a while. Canberra was perfect and it is now getting turned into Sydney messy roads.
