ACT Minister for Health, Katy Gallagher, has announced the opening of the second round of the 2010 GP Development Fund- a $4 million grants program over four years to help sustain and support the general practice workforce. Media release
“Canberrans are well aware that the ACT is experiencing a GP shortage and as part of this Government’s efforts to support general practices, we announced a four year $12 million package in our 2009-10 Budget. The GP Development Fund is one of five initiatives funded through this GP package,” Ms Gallagher said.
“The GP Development Fund provides one-off incentive payments to general practices in the ACT for initiatives that attract and retain staff, enhance practices, establish new services, support disadvantaged groups and improve access to general practice,” she said.
“This is a biannual grant process and while it’s anticipated that most funding applications will not exceed $50,000, greater amounts may be awarded for exceptional proposals and no proposal will be considered too small.
“The Live in Canberra team is also in Brisbane this weekend at a National Careers and Employment Expo actively promoting Canberra as a destination for GPs and students wishing to study in Canberra.
“Live in Canberra is also targeting skilled and business migrants, including GPs, in South Africa over the next ten days through a series of seminars in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.”
