Places to celebrate World Environment Day in Canberra

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on the 5th June by thousands of people around the world. WED is one of the principal vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.
Canberrans will start the World Enviroment Day celebrations on Friday 4th of June 2010 and just like in many other cities and countries there will be a many celebrations around the place.
Some of the events will be:
World Environment Day Division Breakfast
The Property Council in partnership with the United Nations Association of Australia (ACT) invites you to attend its first World Environment Day breakfast on Friday 4 June.
The keynote speakers will be presenting to members and guests issues regarding:
- the built environment including the need for retrofitting existing buildings
- sustainable transport, infrastructure, electricity consumption, water and renewable energy
- vision for change and adaptation for the ACT property market
- the current commercial vacancy rates and office market
- projections for the next 18 months and CUC implications on the ACT property market.For more information visit propertyoz website
World Environment Day – Garema Place Celebration
The interactive event will include displays from local organisations and government agencies to celebrate our environment as well as showcase environmental initiatives and programs that can help our community.
Come and visit us in Garema Place from 11.00am to 2.00pm and celebrate!

World Environment Day Planting – Help rehabilitate the Lower Cotter Catchment
Take action on World Environment Day!
Saturday 5th June 2010
9.30am—12.30pm
Followed by BBQ lunchWhere: Pierces Creek Forrest – head west on Cotter Road, cross the Murrumbidgee and Cotter Rivers, continue past the Cotter Reserve picnic area on Paddys River Road. Turn right at Laurel Camp Road
(2.7 km past Cotter Reserve). Follow Greening Australia signs to planting site.Transport
Car pool or catch the bus! A bus will be leaving from the City West bus terminal on Marcus Clarke Street at 8.30am and from Deeks Forest
Park carpark (Uriarra Road) at 9am. The bus will leave the planting
site at approximately 1pm and return to Deeks Forest car park then
Civic. Seats are limited so please book with RSVP.What to Expect:
Undulating terrain, some blackberries and fallen timber. Tools and instructions will be provided onsite.What to Bring:
Hat, gardening gloves, long pants, sturdy shoes, sunscreen, water
bottle (if bringing your own mattock please label it).RSVP essential

There’s a “Green on the Green” sustainability fair in Forde 10am til 2pm Saturday 5 June. Should be lots of fun for kids and grown-ups.
