New Canberra Women’s and Children’s Hospital plans open for comment

The new ACT Women’s and Children’s Hospital plans have now open for public comment, 17th May 2010. ACT Government release
“Following the recent unveiling of the preliminary sketch plans, a development application has been lodged and the plans are now available for comment,” Ms Gallagher said.
“The 146-bed three-storey hospital will be constructed on the northern end of the Canberra Hospital campus and will surround the existing Maternity building. It will see the collocation of services including Paediatrics at the Canberra Hospital (PatCH), maternity services, the neonatal intensive care unit, gynaecology and fetal medicine, and specialised outpatient services.”
The preliminary sketch plans are on display in the main foyer of Canberra Hospital and are also available to download from the ACT Health website at www.health.act.gov.au/yhop
Local residents near the construction site will soon receive an invitation to an information presentation to view the plans and speak to ACT Health staff. The information session will be held at Canberra Hospital at 6.30pm on Wednesday 26 May 2010.
A further information session for other interested members of the community will be held at Canberra Hospital at 6.30pm on Thursday 27 May 2010.
The public notification period for the development application available on the ACT Planning and Land Authority website closes on Tuesday 1 June 2010 however ACT Health will receive comments until Friday 11 June 2010.

Construction of the new hospital will be conducted in two stages and is expected to commence in mid 2010. Stage one will involve an extension to the existing Maternity building and is expected to be completed in late 2011. Stage two will involve a major refurbishment of the existing building and is expected to be completed in late 2012.
