Canberra’s public arts fundingon statues of Federal politicnas
Posted on May 25, 2010 by by emd
Chief Minister Jon Stanhope has announced the spending of Canberra’s public arts funds (leftover in the budget after the public artworks program was axed)Â on two new statues.
The bronze statues of former PMs John Curtin and Ben Chifley will be located as close as possible to the site of the photograph on which the statues will be based, somewhere between Hotel Kurrajong and Old Parliament House. The statues have been commissioned to be made by Melbourne sculptor Peter Corlett, well respected for his memorial statue works.
A third statue, of former PM Alfred Deakin, will be unveiled at Deakin Shops in June 2010.
So we have three new statues of federal politicians, two of which are likely to be located on NCA-controlled land and made by a non-Canberra artist (no information at hand on the Deakin statue). I don’t see where the link is to Canberra’s arts community.

it looks like the only link to the Canberra’s arts community is that the statues will be placed in Canberra.
