6.9 Earthquake hits Baja California – Mexico

An earthquake of 6.9 7.2 magnitude on the Richter scale hit the region of Baja California (Mexico) and was of such magnitude that it was also felt in the southern U.S., especially in San Diego County and Los Angeles.

The following information came from spanish newspaper La Cronica de Hoy:

The quake struck at 15:40 local time (2240 GMT)and was 32.3 kilometers deep.

Its epicenter was located 26 miles southwest of Guadalupe Victoria, Baja California (Mexico), 61 kilometers southwest of San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, 64 miles southwest of San Luis (Arizona, USA) and 173 km Tijuana, Baja California.

The quake also was felt in Southern California, said the American Geophysical Institute (USGS), which indicated that the quake occurred at 22h40 GMT, 26 kilometers south-southwest of the town of Guadalupe Victoria.

The Nacion.com Newspaper reports that the National Seismological Service (SSN) of Mexico has received no reports of damage caused by the strong earthquake of magnitude 6.9 that struck on Sunday the Mexican state of Baja California (northwest), the agency reported.
