Part of the Healthy Communities pilot program, ACT Health will target disadvantaged people in North Canberra. A needs assessment will be undertaken to identify barriers and the scope and reach of existing services.
Education sessions will be held with service providers to increase their capacity to deliver evidence based dietary education and physical activity programs tailored to at-risk population groups.
Senator Lundy said, “This investment will help people in the community get involved in physical activities with other residents in their community by better understanding need and working with existing services to address this need. “Getting people fit and keeping them well is a much better approach than dealing with unhealthy lifestyles through the health and hospital system,”.
