The Ginninderra Catchment Group (GCG) will purchase new equipment for their Junior Landcare Group (JLG) thanks to a donation from the Canberra Southern Cross Club.
The Canberra Southern Cross Club has donated membership fees from November 2009 to help the JLG, which was founded by the North Belconnen Landcare Group, buy some equipment designed for children, making it easier for them to restore areas around Ginninderra Catchment.
The GCG recognise the importance of teaching younger generations the values of reducing the impacts of human settlement on environmental systems and pursuing more systematic and sustainable environmental outcome.Â
Catchment Coordinator, Bonnie Reynolds, says that the donation will be a big boost for the JLG and other GCG activities.
âWe are extremely grateful for the support from the Canberra Southern Cross Clubâ Reynolds said.
âTheir donation will go towards purchasing more size appropriate equipment for our Junior Group. Currently the kids work with adult sized gear which can be very difficult for them to use.
âWe will also look to use the money for many of our other projectsâ.Â
Lance Prior, Venue Manager at the Jamison Club says the Club is proud to be a member of the North-side community and is pleased they have been given the opportunity to support such worthwhile cause.
âThe Canberra Southern Cross Club is only new to the north-side area, having taken over the Westâs Rugby Club in August 2008, and have received a warm welcome from the whole communityâ Prior said.
âWe were happy to jump at the chance to help the Ginninderra Catchment Group, who are doing such a great and valuable jobâ.
