Cyclist goes through red light without a helmet, Canberra – Photo

Posted on February 25, 2010 by by valerirojas

I live in the Capital of Australia, that is correct “it is Canberra” and not Sydney or Melbourne. I was on my way home yesterday when I saw three cyclists riding in a stupid way on the busy Canberra Avenue Road during pick hour traffic, I then decided to get my mobile phone out and take a photo as I knew they were going to do something stupid.

The lights then turned red and that’s when I saw the three cyclists going through the red lights without stopping or slowing down at all, and one of them wasn’t even wearing a helmet. I then took the photo.

This is something I see everyday in Canberra but I am sure it also happens in other cities in Australia and around the world. In fact a few weeks ago a female cyclist was hit by a car in Canberra and suffered serious head injuries because she wasn’t wearing a helmet.

Can the police do something about this? is a $200 fine enough? how about community service? or can someone teach riders road rules, what are your thoughts about it?
