Commissioner announces community forums on ACT tree management and urban forest renewal investigation

Community members are invited to take part in the Investigation into the Government’s tree management practices and the renewal of Canberra’s urban forest by attending a community forum with the Commissioner to discuss issues of tree management in the ACT on:
- 6-8.30pm, Thursday 11th February 2010 at Ainslie Football Club, 52 Wakefield Ave, Ainslie; or
- 6-8.30pm, Monday 15th February 2010 in the Bradman Room at Manuka Oval, Canberra Ave, Manuka.
ACT Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment, Dr Maxine Cooper, says Canberran’s have been invited to submit information to help guide the Tree Investigation in addition to their invitation to the community meeting to share their views.
“Canberra’s character has been and will be shaped by the trees in our landscape,” Dr Cooper says.
“Trees are important for many reasons, be it a habitat for native birds to marking important moments in our history and investigations such as these will look at how the Government manages our urban forest renewal.”

Community members are invited to lodge submissions with respect to the terms of reference for the investigation by 26 February 2010.
