A 14-year-old Canberra boy is lucky to be alive after stealing a car and crashing it twice this morning in Evatt, Canberra.
“Around 6.45am today (Saturday, February 20) while southbound on Owen Dickson Drive near the intersection with William Webb Drive, the boy has driven the car up over the kerb and narrowly missed hitting a gas main. The impact deflated several of the car’s tyres.
A few minutes later, he has lost control of the stolen car again while on William Webb Drive, crashed, and had to be extricated by ACT Fire Brigade.” ACT Policing
ACTP Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team (CIRT) revealed that the Toyota Corolla had spun off the road at high speed, narrowly missed hitting a large gum tree, ploughed through shrubs and glanced off a house before coming to rest on its side.
The boy was taken to hospital and once discharged from hospital he will be charged with numerous offences including being in charge of a vehicle whilst intoxicated, ride/drive in a stolen motor vehicle, and being an unlicensed driver.
