Will the Apple iSlate Beat Amazon Kindle?

Posted on January 17, 2010 by benrichter

It’s hard to say if Amazon Kindle is about to be challenged in the eReader industry.  Everyone in the tech world is asking the question, will the Apple iSlate beat the Amazon Kindle when it is released?  The trouble with answering that question is directly related to Apple.  Steve Jobs has announced that they have an electronic reader in the works.  The media has even gotten wind of an announcement that is supposed to occur on January 26, 2010 regarding an Apple electronic reader device.

Yet, all this information being linked has not been confirmed.  All we can get is that Apple may be coming out with a device like an Apple Tablet that will be named the iSlate.  With so many rumors swirling around, we did come upon some interesting information.  We have specifications for the Apple iSlate, or at least that is the rumor.

The iSlate is said to have a 7.1 inch display screen with a multi- touch screen.  The screen is supposedly going to be fingerprint resistant in its coating.  Added to the screen specs is the 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 120 GB hard drive, 2GB DDR3 Ram, and a built in projector.  The documents which have supposedly been leaked to the media hounds state this tablet will be run with the new Mac OS X 10.7 platform, which supposedly increases the function of the touch screen.  Furthermore, it is said the platform can bring documents to the home screen if you wish.

From the sounds of the information leaked online the Apple Tablet could very well beat the Amazon Kindle.  It truly sounds as though Apple has found a way to create a mini computer for electronic reading and surfing of the net.  Yet, one thing remains constant in our minds.  It is quite possible that all of the information circulating around the iSlate is false.

This new device may not have the Core 2 Duo processor or new OS system by Mac.  In one article there isn’t even any confirmation that Steve Jobs has approved any design that is being worked on.

The device from Apple will have a QWERTY keyboard to make surfing for information, downloading of books, and all other needs easy to fulfill.  This is assuming the photos that have also been leaked are true.  We will all have to wait a little while longer to see just what Apple has in store for us next.  For now the Amazon Kindle will remain the top selling eReader device, as we all anticipate the announcement of the Apple iSlate.  If Apple does release this product it will have the 3G wireless technology like the other eReaders on the market.

Yes, it is a possibility. In overall sales the iSlate may sell more, but they are completely different devices. And different market segments. We will see.

What you are `describing is not a tablet but a PC. The Apple tablet just will *not* have a disk drive in it – flash ram yes – maybe 64GB or 128GB but a disk drive *no*. The reason = battery.

If people want a that config they will buy a netbook.

The tablet is going to be more like a big brother iPhone but with a greater range of options for input of data (gestures voice) and for multimedia interaction.

The Apple tablet will function more like a window to the cloud but with the ability to store function & apps locally & work off-line from the net.

It has the potential to ‘energise’ the whole PC industry because it will be a game changer.
