Teenager caught driving at 191km in an 80km zone

Posted on January 24, 2010 by by valerirojas

A 19-year-old Traralgon man has had his vehicle impounded for 48 hours and his licence suspended for 12 months after Police caught him driving 111 kilometres over the speed limit late last night. Victoria Police

“Police observed the Ford XR6 travelling east along the Princess Highway Traralgon at 11.00 pm last night at 191 km in an 80 zone. The young man who had his 16 year old girlfriend in the car with him had his licence for only 14 months”, police said.

The reason he gave the local police for driving that fast was because he was late to drop his girlfriend off at home.

But is 12 months of suspended license long enough for someone who was driving that fast? I don’t think so some how.

Suspension could be longer, but what should happen is that his car should be crushed and displayed outside his home for 12 months too. If this was routine in such cases, it would be a far bigger dterrent than a suspension – many suspended drivers take the risk and drive anyway.
