News reports on Peru mudslide

Posted on January 28, 2010 by by sweet tooth

I’m amazed and some what disgusted on the news coverage of the recent mudslide in Peru.  Why is it that no one reports on how many Peruvians have lost their homes during this catastrophe yet they show images of local residents carrying what little belongings they have to higher grounds.  I even saw one man carrying his stove/oven on his back yet all we hear is how many Australian citizens are stranded.  Don’t get me wrong their welfare is important but surely the state of the local citizens is as equally as important.

I’m soooooooooooo over getting crappy news reports, like when everyone harped on and on about Tiger Woods infidelities  when I can gaurantee you in South America alone there were more important and serious news worthy events happening let alone the rest of the world to report on.

That’s traditional media for you, they only report on what they want us to know about and not on what we should or want to know about.

    I couldn’t agree more. It’s sickening.

I have just spent the last hour trying to search for aid agencies in the area or what is being done and come up with nothing but images of senior white tourists being airlifted out.

If anyone knows who or where to donate to or what help is needed internationally please post. I know only a handful of people have died in the floods but unless those bridges are repaired and the local children are sheltered there’s going to be knock-on effects for months…. I don’t see anyone doing a rock concert/CD in the future for these poor (and now homeless) people.

Too right! The media – and that includes the BBC, ABC, CBC, Reuters and the other ‘giants’ are looking after the corporate investors – the good folks suffering in Peru are simply not of sufficient impact to warrant full and complete coverage. I’m hoping OXFAM can get in there with needed supplies and that the ‘giants’ will start to show some of this disaster. I, also, do not give a damn how many marriages Joli has had or whether Edwards is getting a divorce nor what Woods is up to these days.

As we don’t get enough information on what is happening in Peru, I have done some research and found some information on the current situation there, I am going to add a new post about it with some info and thanks sweet tooth for the post.
