The ACT Governmenthas announced today that three contracts for stage two of the Gungahlin Drive Extension (GDE) worth a combined $14.7 million have been awarded to duplicate several key bridges.
“Five of the six contracts for the stage two works have now been awarded. The final contract, which is expected to be tendered in late 2010, is for new lanes connecting the bridges.”
“Stage two of the GDE is progressing well with three contracts recently awarded for the duplication of several key bridges,” Mr Stanhope said. “Work is taking place along the Gungahlin Drive between the Barton Highway and the Tuggeranong Parkway.”
“The ACT Government has committed $83 million over this term to complete the GDE which provides a crucial link between the growing Gungahlin community and the rest of Canberra.”
Mr Stanhope said BMD Construction was awarded the $7.2 million contract to duplicate the Belconnen Way overpass. Work has commenced and is expected be completed by the end of the year.

At the moment to get out of Gungahlin is stil a real nightmare so let’s hope stage two is completed on time and not over budget.
But are people in Canberra happy about this project?
