ACT Policing has arrested a 52-year-old Amaroo man on possession of child “sexual” abuse images. AFP
Territory Investigations Group detectives executed a search warrant on the man’s Amaroo residence around 8am on wednesday, 6th January.
During the execution of the warrant, police seized as evidence multiple computers, computer-related equipment, hard drives and hundreds of hard copy images.
The man was taken to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with the possession of child abuse images and using a carriage service to obtain child abuse images. Further charges are expected once a computer forensics examination has been completed. He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court Today 7th of January.
Note: this is not a case of Child Pornography even though Child pornography is a form of child abuse, this in fact a case of Child Sexual Abuse.
AFP NOTE:
CHILD ABUSE IMAGES, NOT ‘CHILD PORNOGRAPHY’
Use of the phrase ‘child pornography’ actually benefits child sex abusers:
• It indicates legitimacy and compliance on the part of the victim and therefore
legality on the part of the abuser
• It conjures up images of children posing in ‘provocative’ positions, rather than
suffering horrific abuse
Every photograph captures an actual situation where a child has been abused. This is
not pornography
