Bushfire burning South of Canberra
Posted on December 17, 2009 by by valerirojas
The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) website is reporting a fire burning in the vicinity of Michelago at Tea Tree Creek south of the ACT.
“The ACT Rural Fire Service is currently assisting the NSW Rural Fire Service with resources from the Guises Creek Brigade.”
“The ACT Emergency Services Agency advises that at this time there is no threat to Canberra from this fire but urges all households to make sure they have completed a Bushfire Survival Plan which can be downloaded from the ESA Bushfires Home page. For updates on the Tea Tree Creek fire go to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au
There was also a small fire in Civic and another small fire near the Canberra Hospital, I was actually at the Canberra Hospital when this fire happened, it was about 3:30pm this afternoon but the fire brigade got there pretty soon, staff officers were asked to evacuate one section of the Hospital but they went back in within half an hour.

Actually, the fire at the Canberra Hospital was all but extinguished by the time the fire brigade got there, thanks to the fast and efficient reponse by the Hindmarsh construction team working on the carpark nearby. Without them, there would have been a lot more damage. They deserve to receive the praise.

Well done to the Hindmarsh construction team.
Hospital staff were getting very worried as we could see lots of smoke coming from around the main carpark end of the hospital.
