Blogging Vs. Microblogging – Twitter struggles
Posted on November 26, 2009 by by Valeri
Blogging vs. Microblogging, the war of social media continues but Microblogging is not winning the war at all, in fact it seems that its going down.
According to popular Technology website TechCrunch, blogs are doing fine, while Microblogging services “Twitter” is struggling with flattening growth, at least to its Website Twitter.com
“In October, comScore estimates that Twitter had 58.3 million unique visitors worldwide, down from 58.4 million in September. Meanwhile, WordPress.com gained 10 million unique visitors to end the month at 151.8 million—this is after going pretty much nowhere since March, 2009.
Of course, I am using WordPress.com as a proxy for all blogging here (I could have just as easily used Blogger, which is actually bigger with 291.7 million visitors worldwide. And Blogger saw a similar holding pattern since March, with a huge sudden jump of 18.2 million visitors in October”
So is Blogging dead? I don’t think so, in fact it could become more popular than ever, specially if businesses such as News Corp decides to charge for their content.
Is Microblogging “Twitter” dead? well, it isn’t and it won’t die either, as Erick Schonfeld from TechCrunch says, Twitter is becoming the preferred feed reader for many people and so will survive that way, plus there are many people out there who love people following them so they will keep using it to feel special

is it necessary to twitter to be labeled as microblooger? Twitter is evolving as new service that is maintained and developed by its users. it is not anymore just a medium for social interaction, it is also a business tool. its usage became so essential to many services. as a very simple example, transit and carpooling services are spinning off what twitter can offer. Generation x and Y are the most likely users of these services, and these 2 generations have a lot to offer in the next 30 years.
Twitter survival is coming from its users and it is still in its enfathy phase.
