ACT Government sets record straight over Latin Carnival funding

The ACT Government has dismissed claims funding for the ‘Carnival in the City’ event, at next year’s National Multicultural Festival, would be slashed by 75 per cent. This comes a day after the ABC reported that the Latin Carnival Festival funding was cut down to $5000. I also mentioned it here
Funding for ‘Carnival in the City’ is $15,000 and not $5000, the funding will include support for community groups, local and interstate bands, dancers and singers, as well as a DJ and an MC.
“There has been talk that the funding for ‘Carnival in the City’ has been cut to $5,000. To set the record straight, $15,000 has in fact been allocated by the Government for this event.”
The government also reports that all major events from the 2009 Multicultural Festival program will again feature in February 2010, including the ‘Food and Dance Spectacular,’ ‘Greek Glendi’, ‘India in the City,’ ‘Chinese New Year’ and ‘Carnival in the City.’”
Canberra Latin Lovers can feel better again as the “Carnival in the City” will be back next year.
