Taxi versus train: passengers escape with only seconds to spare

Posted on October 12, 2009 by by Valeri

A taxi driver and his two passengers had a very lucky escape late last night after getting out of a taxi before it was hit by a train. Victoria Police

At approximately 10.45pm the taxi was travelling east along Devon Road across the rail crossing just east of Pascoe Vale Road.

The taxi driver then tried to execute a U-turn and became stuck on the track facing south.

The driver and male and female passengers who were in the rear seat, got out of the taxi and less than 30 seconds later a train struck the rear of the taxi pushing it 50 metres along the track.

No one was injured and the 25 passengers on the train were transported by bus to their various destinations.
