Great News for Canberrans – Smoking to be banned in outdoor food and drinking areas
Posted on October 15, 2009 by by Captcha
Finally some great news for all the people in Canberra who love outdoor eating and drinking. The ACT Minister for Health, Katy Gallagher MLA, will be introducing a bill into the Legislative Assembly to restrict smoking in all food and drink outdoor areas. Government release
“Today, the Government is delivering on its commitment to the ACT community to promote the health and wellbeing of Canberrans,” Ms Gallagher said.
The Minister said the Smoking (Prohibition in Enclosed Public Places) Amendment Bill 2009 would introduce a ban on smoking in outdoor eating and drinking places, as well as at underage functions.
The new restrictions are proposed to commence on 1 December 2010, which is good news but it would have been better if it started sooner.

the underage part has always made sense…
the outdoor eating/drinking areas is a nice addition, although as a non-smoker and hater of people smoking near me…..im not too convinced about it.
I as a non smoker have a choice, eat in…or eat outside
smokers only have the outdoor choice, well…..had
