Female Cyclist struck by truck at market – Victoria

Posted on October 1, 2009 by by valerirojas

A 37- year- old woman suffered life threatening injuries after when she was hit by a truck at Footscray market this morning, about 2.2oam.

The woman was riding her bike on the grower’s concourse area of the market at Footscray Road, when she was struck by the truck. Police reported

The injured woman was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

A week ago Victoria Police asked drivers to look out for cyclists after a number of cyclist collisions in Melbourne but did anyone get the message?

I should also mention that during the month of October Victoria Police will be speaking to around 30,000 cyclists across the state as Safe Cycle Month aims to increase bike safety and reduce the number of bicycle-related collisions.

Apparently there were around 15,000 collisions involving cyclists last year in Victoria and Police believes it could be prevented if awareness amongst riders and other road users was increased.
