Posted on October 20, 2009 by by valerirojas
ABC2 TV reporter, Virginia Trioli was caught on air pulling a crazy face at Senator Barnabay Joyce during a live interview on monday 19th of October.
News.com.au reports that Trioli apologized to senator Joyce  but unfortunately the footage is already on youtube.
So was she really making fun of the senator or was she asking the camera man for something? you decide.

It is highly unprofessional that her personal opinions (through her actions) seem to have been so blatant, however she has quickly made what seems like a genuine and frank apology according to the news.com.au report.
The individual prejudices of a journalist / reporter / presenter or specific instructions they may have received from management (perhaps to target a particular angle) will always colour the outcomes and introduce some level of bias in the reporting process.
You only have to observe news organisations on opposite ends of the political spectrum to see this in play. Fox News in the US is currently being accused of extreme bias by the White House.
The only solution is for the viewer to have an understanding of the background and past performance of the journalist / reporter / presenter, and also understand the typical bias the news organisation they work for.
It is always up to the viewer to obtain a balanced view by canvassing alternate news sources across a spectrum of views/positions. Ultimately, it is important to bear in mind that the individual will tend to empathize with the reporting approach that most closely concurs with their own personal opinions.
