Nine people have died after a small plane and helicopter collided over the Hudson River in New York and it seems that Twitter was first to report it. Mashable
“Twitter user @ziggfather posted comments as he witnessed the incident. Hudson River power boater @MychaelS was on the river and took Twitpicâd a photo of the coastguard on route.
Most chillingly, Twitter user @weekendoasis claims he Twitpiced a photo of the tire from the plane involved in the crash. He Tweets: âTire from copter crash in nyc .. landed in front of my car while drivingâ.”
No wonder some newspapers want to start charging for their news, I just don’t understand why traditional media can’t work together with social media? I think it is simple, social media breaks the news, traditional media does a proper research on the issue by using social media content and other resources, then goes off and reports a nice article 30 mins later, simple right? after all if we didn’t have social media then we still be getting our news a day or two later.
No long before Australians embrace Citizen/Community journalism like it is done in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
