Trad media slams new politics
Posted on July 15, 2009 by by madepercy
Premier of SA, Mike Rann, has been a leader in using twitter for state politics and citizen engagement – unlike many, he tends to follow those who follow him. The trad news has had a field day with his new media leadership and I am not happy about the poor reporting by the media.
Like I have said in many recent presentations, the traditional media only reports on politicians’ use of new media when something goes wrong, but in the meantime uses the free news sources to pad out their own lack of reporting capabilities. This article in the Australian IT News is a great example of the low standard of reporting which is occurring in the trad media.
Having recently been subjected to a similar situation, through no fault of my own, I empathise with the SA Premier. If such poor reporting leads to poor new media engagement by our political representatives, you will know who to blame.
