New “Black Spot” on Jupiter discovered by Canberra Region Astronomer
Posted on July 21, 2009 by by jr
According to Boing Boing, local Canberra* amateur astronomer Anthony Wesley has discovered a new black spot on Jupiter on 19th July 2009. This new feature probably marks a recent impact of a comet or asteroid in to the planet’s atmosphere.
* It appears that the observation was actually made just down the road in Murrumbateman.

Interesting report, specially when you published it before any one else in Canberra or should I say Australia

Slashdot and the US media were across this before the local Australian media – timing and news cycles perhaps?
