Is preserving poop on the moon important?

Posted on June 17, 2009 by by jr

BoingBoing has an interesting article that links to several other articles that discuss space archeology and the preservation of the lunar landing sites. It is an interesting concept because normally one only thinks of archeology in terms of what is discovered years, centuries, if not thousands of years after the events have occurred. The Apollo lunar landing sites are perhaps the most significant “record” of  human exploration; it provides the record when we first set foot on a planet other than Earth.

The Apollo 11 site could be at risk at disturbance from Google Lunar X Prize aspirants such as Astrobotic Technology who within the next few years intend to sent their entrant to roam the Apollo 11 site.

that’s a good question but I wouldn’t want them to keep my poop up there, although I could always say I left some sh*t up there.. :-)

preserving it is a good idea…..since it does show human achievement. But to control the area like you own it etc is just ridiculous IMO :P
