ACT Gov allocates $1.2 million to Health Projects

The ACT Government has allocated  $1,252,853 through the ACT Health Promotion Grants Program 2009-10 Community Funding Round to not-for-profit, community organisations and government agencies to implement health promotion projects across the ACT, ACT Health Minister Katy Gallagher MLA said today.
“The ACT Health Promotion Grants Program encourages partnerships that improve health outcomes of people experiencing the greatest disadvantage, by promoting positive self-image, strengthening and enhancing community support networks, and reducing health risk factors.”
Some of the  successful applicants were:
- Arthritis ACT: Arthritis and osteoporosis prevention and amelioration in six work places – $50,000
- Barnardos: SHOgirls- Strong, Healthy, Optimistic girls – $15,492
- Belconnen Community Service Inc: ‘Soccer for Life’ Multicultural World Cup – $23,429
- Belconnen Church of Christ: More than a food bank – $25,964
- Canberra Blind Society: Sense-able First Aid – $8,523
- Companion House: Building Healthy Communities Together – $59,700
- Companion House: Young People Growing – $39,500
- Friends of Brain Injured Children ACT Inc: Provide funding for liability insurance and small library for FBIC – $4,900

makes me wonder how much ‘good’ that money will do, when broken down, the amounts dont sound like much at all.
