Posted on May 15, 2009 by by madepercy
The University of Canberra is hosting a free public seminar:
Pipe Dreams: A vision for a connected Australia
Where: Building 12, level B, Room 50
When: 12:30pm to 1:30pm, Thursday 21 May 2009
Speakers:
Chair: Professor Carole Kayrooz
Senator Kate Lundy: New Media and Citizen Engagement
Professor Keith Lyons: Connecting communities: Bandwidth and incandescence
Michael de Percy: Broadbanding the Academy: Changing the rules of the game
About the Event:
The National Broadband Network (NBN) will enable Australians to connect using high-speed broadband technologies. Already, broadband technologies are enabling greater access to information and the ability to connect in ways which are changing the nature of communities, work, leisure and the way people interact. Senator Kate Lundy recently launched ‘Public Sphere: Higher bandwidth for Australia’ at the ANU and it has proven to be an effective formula for enabling greater participation by citizens in the online public sphere. In this seminar, the presenters will outline their visions of how access to high-speed broadband will affect Australians, their communities, and academics.
The event will be video-recorded, live-blogged and ‘tweeted’ on Twitter. More details to follow shortly.
