Immigration Bridge, Can They Build It?

Posted on May 29, 2009 by by Captcha

The Immigration Bridge Australia proposal seeks to commemorate the contribution that migrants have made to Australia. The proposed 400m bridge will cross Lake Burley Griffin in the area of West Basin linking the National Museum of Australia with the parliamentary zone at Lennox Gardens.

The proponents of the $30 million Immigration Bridge have been set the significant challenge of trying to reconcile all the competing issues around its impact on Lake Burley Griffin if the project is going to become a reality.

If they can’t meet that requirement, they will have to move the bridge to a different location or come up with a different form of memorial to immigration, such as a statue or parkland. Canberra Times

a statue seems to be a better option….or a park or plaza. Will this bridge be of any help to ease congestion on the roads or be used often enough to justify the cost?
I mean, i know its meant to be a memorial, but its going to be one that will be used physically….I dont see it been something worth building :\

not there anyways, maybe somewhere where a road/bridge is REALLY needed to ease traffic etc..

A bridge would be a waste of money, maybe a statue near the Parliament House or a immigration wall similar to what they have in Sydney…

With the amount of people in Canberra that bridge will be pretty empty. :-)
