FC Barcelona – League, Cup and UEFA champions

Spanish Football Club Barcelona “Barca”, has become the first Spanish club to win the Spanish Liga, Spanish King’s Cup “Copa del Rey” and the UEFA Champions League in one season.

Barça beat Athletic Bilbao 4-1 at the Mestalla to win the Copa del Rey for an impressive 25th time. 13 May

Then they were crowned The Spanish Liga champions for the 2008-09 season. During the second round of the league competition Barcelona played Real Madrid in El Clasico, which Barca won 6-2.

Today 28th May “Australian Time”, Barça defeated the defending champions Manchester United 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, to win their third UEFA Champions League title.

FC Barcelona were crowned European champions for a third time – and the second in four seasons – as a vibrant display of pass and move, capped by goals in either half from Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi, defeated Manchester United FC in Rome. UEFA

Lionel Messi was chosen as the fan’s man of the match given him the chance to win the FIFA player of the year.

There are also reports of Barca fans creating a bit of a riot as Spanish police arrested more than 40 people in Barcelona today as thousands celebrated Barcelona’s victory. News.com.au
