What do you think of EPIC in Canberra?

Posted on April 16, 2009 by by valerirojas

Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC), is a national and international multi-purpose events complex,  it is a venue for exhibitions, conventions, functions, festivals and other events.

EPIC’s marketing team Marketing Angels is asking the community for some feedback on what we all think of EPIC.

I’ve been tasked with drafting a statement of purpose for EPIC.  To do that, I’d like to get an idea of what the people of Canberra think of EPIC – what is it’s purpose and what do you think it’s purpose should be.

The survey is completely anonymous and will take less than 2 minutes to complete. Jean Mc

I refuse to fill out the survey on the basis of the fact that they have used the wrong “it’s”. Twice.

stamps feet and wanders off in a little writer tantrum

Does that qualify as an EPIC FAIL? (internet humour)

You get hung up on the incorrect use of it’s, but the title of this thread doesn’t bother you? (or is the “in Canberra” bit an echo?)

Depends on whether you mentally expand the acronym or not. Because it’s an acronym and not an initialism, I tend to think of it as “Epic” rather than “Exhibition Park in Canberra”. It’s still an echo, but didn’t stand out as glaringly as the multiple “it’s” ;)

Dermott, Canberrans aren’t the only people visiting or using Typeboard, so it could have been EPIC in Sydney, Melbourne, USA or other places, I had to make it clear some how and I think it was pretty clear.

However if the title was “What do you think of EPIC in Canberra in Canberra” then we could have also called it an Epic Fail. But please lets focus on the content of the article, it was about giving feedback on what you thought of EPIC and not the grammar of the survey page.

I actually like the place but I would like to see more sport events such as martial arts tournaments and IT conferences. :-)

    What about anyone else?

  14. latinoz says:

    i rather dislike epic..
alot of events that are hosted there later on charge ridiculous entry fees because they have to pass given to them by EPIC.

example…I went to the National Folk Dancing Festival there about 2 weekends ago…and if it wasnt that my sister inlaw (who was participating in the event) told them we were part of the group….we would have had to pay $90 each…A DAY!

plus all the other costs inside..

  15. Loquacity says:

The National Folk Festival has always been dear, although compared to other folk festivals it’s not ridiculously excessive. And it does have the extra added prestige of being “the Nationals”. There are other things held at EPIC (like the Lifeline Book Fair, and various conventions) that don’t have a cover charge. Do these events cover the cost EPIC is charging them themselves? Or does EPIC only charge certain events? I’d be interested to know where you got your info from latinoz …

  16. Dermott says:

Presumably EPIC hire out the space, and various organisations choose to charge entry to their events or not. No great puzzle.

  17. Loquacity says:

True, but if the rates are as ridiculous as latinoz is suggesting, how do low- or no-profit ventures manage to put on events there at all?

I guess my question is not so much about how or why EPIC would charge for the venue space, but more about how much and to whom.
