Typeboard Rocks!

Posted on April 4, 2009 by by madepercy

Couldn’t help but thinking how good this forum is… so I blogged a little on my thoughts about Typeboard while I was procrastinating (instead of writing up my research) here: http://madepercy.blogspot.com/2009/04/evolving-community-networks-local-level.html.

Nicely said. I’ve also blogged about social commons quite a lot, most recently here. (Yes, I know, the images on my blog are stuffed. I’m in the process of getting that fixed.)

So do I Danman. Seeing the poll on female politicians’ looks has dismayed me though. I had such high hopes for TB :(

No, indeed it does not. And the commentary has been reasonably enlightening. I just saw that post immediately before seeing this one and was feeling a bit dismayed. I’m not going to abandon Typeboard in disgust just yet though!

They noted that as TB is a fledgling site, they haven’t seen the issues that the other forum has seen.

They also noted that the articles aren’t just of a local focus, which probably won’t give them much trouble.

I informed them that the ability to post non region specific was a huge drawcard for me, not having to worry about the local content in my posts and being able to comment on new technology releases in the technology section, or browsing it specifically was awesome.

I personally like Typeboard because what you add to the site is not moderated like in other places, after all it is your right to speak your mind, right :-)

  17. Loquacity says:

I honestly think that it’s all about creating the right ethos in the first place. That is the thing that is hardest to change later on. If you get it right to start with, then there’s no need to completely start again when you decide that the ethos has problems.

scoop, do you mean moderated personally? not on the merit of the post but how the moderator personally feels at the time?

  19. peterh says:

sorry, i should elaborate. I have been moderated on several sites for breach of T&C, code of conduct etc, in my early days of forum use. Never modded for personal reasons, have come close, but no cigar. There are forums where the mods take all comments personally, and moderate on the belief system that they have, or their personal opinion. This has no place in a growing forum, it stifles the conversations….

  21. scoop says:

I believe if forums, citizen journalism news sites, blogs and any other type of social or community site allows comments or content by the user then the content should not be moderated unless they breach any T&C, code of conduct and other laws.

I see so many forums and websites that say we are social and want your input, however if they don’t like your comments or posts then they just don’t show it in their sites. That is ridiculous, these sites are trying to control what you can or can’t say.

They are missing the point of what a citizen journalism or community commons site is about.

    I hope Typeboard doesn’t change their T&C.

I think people should be moderated for aggressive behaviour, abusing other participants and other such anti-social behaviour. Not for opinions.
