Summernats for Sale

Posted on April 18, 2009 by by valerirojas

Summernats is a show/event which attracts thousands of enthusiasts from Australia and overseas to see, feel and participate in one of the biggest car festivals in Canberra, Australia.

The owner of Summernats “Chic Henry” has had enough of the festival and will be selling it this year. CanberraTimes reported

Mr Henry said he had five potential buyers for the event, including one Canberra company.

Oh, this is interesting. I foresee two potential conclusions to this story:

1: Chic doesn’t manage to sell (since he’s been whining about how hard the whole thing is for years, this is a distinct possibility), and the whole event will be dead in the water; or

2: Someone buys it, cleans it up, and gets a great show happening.

    Either way … yay!

I thought there were reports of a Sydney business wanting to buy it sometime last year? maybe I am wrong here?

Valeri, Chic Henry’s been using the “Sydney” threat for years to get the ACT Govt to fork up cash and assistance. To lose it for Canberra is a great loss. In the same way that the loss of John Howard from Parliament was a loss for Canberra.

it will be a shame if its lost. Not that I ever attended, but alot of bussiness I know of profited tremendously from the tourism it brought in.

I hope it doesnt go the way of the ‘Capital stage of the V8 supercars’ that was a huge loss to the ACT IMO
