Yes, peterh, I believe they were from the UK. I have to admit scoop, not having heard or read of it directly, so I couldn’t say. But it did strike me as terribly unfair. The cost of bringing people out here would have been more expensive than covering the cost of training for the casuals.

If the casual workers were doing a good job then I don’t see why they had to pack up their bags.

However if the casual workers weren’t doing a good job then I understand.

Better qualifications? wouldn’t they all do some kind of ACT gov training course anyway?

Something doesn’t sound right there.

I heard a (second hand but from a good source) that some casual child care workers were quite happily doing their work. The Live in Canberra people recruited some child care workers from overseas. The newbies were given the jobs of the casual workers with the result that the casual folks got their marching orders. Not very fair. The argument was that the newbies were better qualified. It’s still not right.

I don’t mind seeing more people moving to Canberra, I actually like that idea, we are a bloody city and not a country town like most australians think.

But I agree, our government needs to work harder on our transport systems and other problems we currently have or all these people moving to Canberra will move somewhere else.

We have water restrictions because we’ve got too many people for the resources available.
We have a tightening job market.
We have a failed public transport system, and worsening traffic problems.
Can someone tell me why we’re spending ratepayers’ dollars on importing more people?
