State Focus tv show covers Twitter – 29th March

Posted on March 27, 2009 by by valerirojas

The Southern Cross Ten current affairs program State Focus will be talking about the popular miniblogging social network website Twitter.

This sunday 29th March at 8:30am

I couldn’t find anything else about this sunday show. I checked www.ten.com.au but their TV guide does not include Canberra. I guess they forgot Canberra is the Capital of Australia.

  1. Everybody forgets Canberra is the capital of Australia, unless they want to bag it out. Overseas visitors usually don’t know in the first place.

I’ve had great (great as in large more so than great as in wonderful) arguments with Americans online about what the capital of Australia is. I try to point out that there’s a pretty good chance that I actually know. I live in it.

  3. That is hilarious! :D

Perhaps they should rename it Deepest Darkest Far Outer Southwest Sydney.

Friends overseas tell me when they hear or watch ads about Australia all they hear is Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.

Having said that, the ACT gov “Office for Children, Youth and Family Support” has been advertising jobs in the UK to move to Canberra http://www.dhcs.act.gov.au/ocyfs/Recruitment/vacancies that is a good thing. right?

99 u r right, when you watch the news in other cities and they want to criticise something the government has done they say “Canberra” did this or that. No wonder everyone thinks Canberrans decide what happens in Australia.

Most Australians don’t even know that politicians don’t even live in Canberra.

I wonder how twitter is relevant to Canberra specifically? I thought State Focus was about local issues, so there must be a local angle to their story… will have to watch and find out.

There is a fairly large Twitter following amongst the Canberra geekerati, but I only found out about through GGD[1]. I think there’s something to be said for setting up a standing search request and following people that turn up. There’s also a few up-and-coming tools such as wefollow[2] that could potentially be good for growing your network.

I’ve mentioned it at length in another thread, so I won’t go into detail all over gain here, but Twitter specifically and social networking technology in general really is going to change how, why and even what we communicate over the next few years. The newspaper is dead – long live Twitter!

Oh my, now I’m even footnoting my comments! Next I’ll be writing executive summaries and listed peer reviews … *sigh*

I would expect there to be a large Twitter following in any city large enough to have lots of IT workers. Will still be interested in finding out what their Canberra angle is.

That was a nice intro to Twitter from Michael de Percy http://madepercy.blogspot.com/ in State Focus this morning.

I wonder how many Canberrans created a twitter account after the show today?
