An Example of Web 2.0 – G.ho.st
Posted on March 30, 2009 by by peterh
Spent a bit of time recently checking out some interesting technologies, web 2.0, cloud, grid and some others, but the penny dropped on how to show these interesting technologies when I was at a Cisco update, and the CTO started talking about this great new web 2.0 product, that he had found and now uses. I was enthralled. I am a bit geeky sometimes, but this was great!
The product is a fully functional web based operating system, a virtual computer, if you will. It works on every browser, and you can be anywhere in the world, connecting to your system. The storage is a bit low, to start with, but this is designed to make it attractive to buy hosted storage. The other option is to sign up friends – each friend that  mentions your username (mine is plhau) gives you an extra 1gb of storage….
The virtual computer (going to refer to it as VC hereon) has all the products that you can use anywhere, and no licensing fees…
what is in it as standard:
writer – wordprocessor, spread sheet creator, integrated mail, integrated browser, IM apps, games, and there are many apps that can be added, from a list.
the url for more info is http://g.ho.st – it is a neat way to dip your toe in web 2.0, and gain a better understanding of what can be done….

just don’t forward gmail to it, as it searches your entire archive and sends it all to you.

I’m sure the service is great, but it’s not for me. Thanks for sharing though
